Help Preserve the Gift of Guidance this Ramadan!
Asalamu-a’laykum dear brothers and sisters,
Ramadan, as the month of the Quran, is at its core a celebration of the gift of guidance. For us as Muslims, there is nothing – literally, nothing – more important than preserving this gift in our life and the lives of our children and loved ones. This is the Muslim Society of Delaware Valley’s mission, and your support is critical.
Our righteous predecessors have transmitted this gift of guidance to us through sacrifice and difficulty. As Imam Busairi wrote in the Qasida Burda, the Prophet (SAW) persevered and endured hardship after hardship “until he set this Ummah amongst the stars.” In the famous words of the Urdu poet Iqbal, the noble Sahaba traversed vast deserts, pushed their horses against the violent currents of the rivers, and trekked across treacherous mountain passes and valleys to proclaim and share this gift. Some of our classical scholars endured torture so that this gift would reach us intact. These are not just idealized legends of the past – contemporary Muslims continue to endure trials in the preservation of this gift and tradition.
In this marathon across time, the baton has been handed to us. The burden is great, the expectations are high, and the challenges daunting. None of us can run this race alone. It is only through institutions and living the concept of jama’a – congregation – that we can preserve this gift in our life and the life of our children.
This is the work of the Muslim Society of the Delaware Valley for the past forty years. Things have changed over the years - MSDV today has multiple centers, a full time school, and a number of full time employees. But our number one priority has always been the same - creating a community space that conveys this gift to our youth and passes forward this baton.
I ask you to support this critical mission and to help us reach our Ramadan fundraising goal of $350,000. I hope you consider making either a one time or recurring monthly donation. May the light of guidance be forever guarded in our hearts and the hearts of our children.
