The Know Your Neighbor program began in 2016, with the vision of introducing non-Muslims in the Tri-state area to our faith, Our community, and our campus. The program provides an informative tour of campus buildings, discussion about the five pillars of Islam, and Q&A. Guests then observe the Duhr prayer. Food is provided after the tour, which allows for more time for casual conversation. since its inception, Know Your Neighbor has met regularly, giving tours to local civic groups, university classes, faith groups and interested individuals.

Faith, Advocacy, and Community: Dr. Samina Sohail Represents ICGC at Miami University Panel

A new Catholic Archbishop of the Cincinnati Archdiocese was selected by Pope Francis to serve as the top Catholic leader in Southwest Ohio. Shakila Ahmad, past board chair, was able to represent ICGC at this historic installation held at St. Peter’s Basilica. She was treated with great respect and seated in front with other regional leaders and the Archbishop’s family. She was able to have a few words with the Archbishop who was extremely respectful and responded favorably to her invitation of visiting the Islamic Center of Greater Cincinnati.

Dr. Samina Sohail, ICGC board vice chair and an outreach leader, served on an important panel at Miami University Oxford on Faith Community Advocacy and Support at these difficult times. She passionately spoke of the Islamic Center of Greater Cincinnati and then discussed compassionately the following questions in regards to dealing with the ongoing genocide and the challenges of our Muslim students and diverse community.

What does your faith organization do, and who does it serve?
How is your faith community supporting your members around difficult topics or current issues?
What actions does your faith community take to support or advocate for those you serve? Are there specific actions your faith community has taken to support members of your community on social issues that impact them?
How can we as psychologists better support members of your faith community in the work that we do? How can people outside of your faith be supportive allies?
