Update on the recent unfortunate event at GIC!
Georgetown, Texas - March 23rd, 2024
Assalamualaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuhu
We are deeply saddened by an unfortunate incident that occurred on Friday, March 22nd 2024, at the Georgetown Islamic Center (GIC).
The incident involved an act of violence on the premises. While the incident was isolated, it disrupted the peaceful atmosphere within our community. GIC is in full cooperation with the Williamson County Sheriff's Department as they investigate this incident. To be clear, the board at GIC has a zero-tolerance policy for any form of violence or disruptive behavior within our mosque premises.
While we are fortunate that no one was injured during this incident, we will be implementing additional security measures on the premises to ensure the safety and well-being of all members and visitors. This includes increased security personnel and enhanced surveillance systems to monitor activities in and around the mosque. Our priority is to create a safe and welcoming environment for everyone who comes to our mosque.
We are committed to fostering a safe and inclusive environment where individuals of all backgrounds can come together. We will continue to work closely with the Williamson County Sheriff's Department and community partners to address any security concerns and ensure the safety of our community members.
