Rajab
The sacred month of Sha’ban began on January 31st. Sha’ban is the eighth month of the Islamic Hijri Calendar, following the holy month of Rajab and preceding the holy month of Ramadan. The most significant day of Sha’ban is the 15th, known as Shab-e-Barat, when many scholars believe that Allah (SWT) raises the deeds of His servants. Sha’ban is also referred to as the month of the Prophet (PBUH), as he would often spend much of it fasting in preparation for Ramadan. It is highly recommended to fast on the white days, the 13th, 14th, and 15th of Sha’ban. Fasting and worship during Sha’ban help train oneself in preparation for the coming of Ramadan. This is an ideal time to incorporate beneficial habits and extra acts of ibadah, such as daily dua, dhikr, Tahajjud, and Nafl prayers. One of the most virtuous acts in Sha’ban is Sadaqah. As the month of the Prophet (PBUH), it is important to honor him and show our gratitude for his mercy by helping the poor and needy.
