The month of Dhul-Hijjah
All praise is due to Allah, Lord of the Worlds. May peace and blessings be upon the Messenger Muhammad
The month of Dhul-Hijjah 1445 started Saturday, June 15, 2024.
A. Excellence of these ten days
1. In the Quran Allah (SWT) says:
"By the dawn and by the ten nights " [Quran 89:1-2]
Imam Al-Tabari (RAA) said that "the ten nights" referred to here are the first ten days of Sacrifice, or Dhul-Hijjah.
" and remember the name of Allah in the appointed days." [Quran 2:203] Imam Al-Shafiee (RAA) said the appointed days are the first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah.
2. In the Sunnah, the Messenger of Allah (PBUH), said:
"There are no other days that are as great as these in the sight of Allah, the Most Sublime. Nor are there any deeds more beloved to Allah than those that are done in these ten days. So increase in tahlil (to say la illaha illAllah), takbir (to say Allahu akbar) and tahmid (to say alhumdulillah)."
3. According to Ibn Hajar (RAA) who said:
"The most apparent reason for the ten days of Dhul-Hijjah being distinguished in excellence is due to the assembly of the greatest acts of worship in this period, i.e. Prayers, Fasting, Charity and Pilgrimage. In no other periods do these great deeds combined."
B. What to do in these ten days
In order to benefit from the first ten days of Dhul-Hijjah, Muslims are encouraged to engage in as many good deeds as possible. Some examples are:
1. Prayer guard the obligatory Prayers and offer voluntary Prayers
2. Fasting Fast as many of the first nine days of Dhul-Hijjah as possible. The Prophet (PBUH) used to fast all first nine days of Dhul-Hijjah
3. Fasting on the day of Arafah If one cant fast all first nine days, then at least dont miss fasting on the day of Arafa. The Prophet (PBUH) said about the benefit of fasting on the day of Arafa:
"Be content with the fact that Allah will expiate for you your sins for the year before (the day of Arafah) and the year after (the day of Arafah)."
4. Dikr Make it a habit to say: allahu akbar, la illaha illallah, alhamdulillah and offer Salat on the Prophet (PBUH) as many times as you can.
5. Takbeerat - Make it a habit to say Takbeerat. One version of Takbeerat is:
Allahu akbar, Allahu akbar, Allahu Akbar, la ilaha illallah,
Allahu akbar, wallahu akbar, wa lillahil hamd.
May Allah Guide us to benefit from these ten days of Dhul-Hijjah, Ameen!
