As I mentioned last time (in our khāṭirah), we should not view His mention – exalted is He – of the Fire as something bad, but rather, we should look at it from a perspective of gratitude. It is the truth from our Lord, and if He had not mentioned it, we would not have been able to avoid it. Without realizing it, we would have fallen into it unwittingly, leading to the destruction of ourselves and our loved ones, for just as we will not find any change in Allāh’s way (Sunnah), we will not find any alteration in His truth.

كما ذكرتُ المرة الأخيرة (في الخاطرة), لا ينبغي أن ننظرَ إلى ذكره تعالى عن النار أو الجحيم, أنه شيء سوء ولكن ينبغي أن ننظرَ إليها من وِجهة النظر الشكر فهي حق من ربنا وإن لم يذكرها لن نستطيع أن اجتنابَها ودون أن ندركَ ذلك, لكنّا قد هوينا فيها دون وعي, مما أدّى إلى هلك أنفسنا وأحبائنا, وكما لن نجد لسنة الله تبديلا لن نجد لحقه تحويلا

From a reflection on Sūrah al-Raḥmān verse 42 from our Saturday morning Fajr Club at Middle Ground:

هَـٰذِهِۦ جَهَنَّمُ ٱلَّتِى يُكَذِّبُ بِهَا ٱلْمُجْرِمُونَ

“This is the Hell which the wicked denied.”
