QRN 101: Ulm al-Quran: An Introduction to Quranic Sciences

Instructor: Muft Hassan Shaikh

Timing: 10:05 AM - 10:45 AM

Course Description: A perfect scripture that falsehood cannot touch in any way. A Revelation sent down from the Wise, He who is worthy of all praise. (41:41-42). The Quran is the ultimate source of Sacred Law and serves as a comprehensive guide for living, clarifying ones relationship with the Creator, humanity, and the world at large. For centuries, its authority was unquestioned, yet in modern times, deliberate efforts have sown seeds of doubt in the hearts of many. 

This course aims to reaffirm the timeless authority of the Quran by exploring key topics such as the definition of the Quran and Revelation, its miraculous nature, the stages of revelation, its compilation and preservation, and its script. Additionally, students will delve into the modes of recitation, the order of revelation, and the sequence of its chapters. The course will also cover the historical context behind the revelation of specific verses and chapters, the stylistic and thematic features of the Makkan and Madinan surahs, and the principles of Qurnic exegesis, including topics like abrogation and the distinction between unambiguous and ambiguous verses.
 


ARB 101: Foundations of Arabic

Instructor: Mauln Zahid Choudhury

Course Description: At the heart of mastering any language lies its grammar. This course introduces students to the foundational principles of naw, or Arabic grammar, covering essential terminology, grammatical rules, and sentence structures. Recognizing that the liberal artsgrammar, logic, and rhetoriccannot be mastered through lectures alone, students will engage in grammar workshops that feature guided practice and teacher-led exercises. These workshops are designed to provide hands-on experience, ensuring that students not only understand theoretical concepts but also apply them effectively, laying the foundation for subsequent growth and academic success.  
 


FQH 101: ahrah & alh: The Essentials of Purification and Prayer

Instructor: Muft Talha Waseem

Course Description: Purification is the essential foundation of valid prayers Prophet Muammad said, There is no prayer except from one who is pure. In order to properly fulfill the obligation of alh, one must first understand how to purify oneself. Thus, the classical books of Islamic jurisprudence begin with the chapter on ahrah (purification), which precedes all other acts of worship. Likewise, since alh is the first matter for which one is held accountable on the Day of Reckoning, its importance cannot be overstated. Prayers are only accepted if performed in a legally valid manner, making it incumbent upon every Muslim to learn how to pray correctly. This course offers an in-depth study of both ahrah and alh, equipping students with the knowledge to ensure their acts of worship are sound and acceptable in the sight of Allah.


HAD 201: The Prophetic Portrait: Study of the Shamail

Course Description: The Shamil, or the study of the Prophet Muammad physical and moral attributes, is a cherished aspect of Islamic scholarship and a delicacy for all believers. Understanding the Shamil provides invaluable insights into the life and personality of the Prophet , serving as a model for ethical and spiritual excellence. The detailed descriptions in Shamil literature highlight the Prophets physical features, his daily habits, and the virtues that distinguished his behavior, presenting him as an ideal figure for personal emulation. In this course, students will study classical texts that describe the Prophets attributes, gaining a deeper appreciation of his exemplary life. Key topics will include his physical traits, his conduct in various settings, and the moral virtues that defined his interactions. Through this study, students will be inspired to embody these noble traits and strengthen their connection to the teachings of the Prophet .


HAD 102: The Forty Hadith of Imam al-Nawaw

Instructor: Muft Umrain Khan

Course Description: A select set of hadith make up Islams fundamentals. Imm al-Nawaw collected these narrations in a compilation known as al-Arban al-Nawawiyyah, or The 40 Hadith of Imm al-Nawaw. Each narration is an indispensable part of the religion. In this class, students will explore each hadith with a detailed explanation that elucidates its significance and relevance.

QRN 102: Insights on Selected Surahs from Juz Amma

Course Description: This course will explore the chapters of the Holy Quran that are frequently recited in prayer, with a particular focus on juz ammah and the last ten chapters of the Qurn. The prayer is central to our religious experience, serving as a direct line of communication with Allh. Through prayer, believers address their needs, resolve their problems, and strengthen their connection with their Creator.

To elevate ones prayer from a routine act to a spiritually enriching experience, it is crucial to deepen ones understanding of the Quran. In this class, students will examine each selected srah word by word, delving into the linguistic nuances and the deeper meanings as elucidated by scholars of tafsr. This approach will not only illuminate the linguistic aspects but also produce an appreciation for the literary beauty of the Quran. 


ETQ 101: Etiquettes of Seeking Knowledge

Instructor: Mauln Zahid Choudhury

Course Description: Pursuing knowledge without seeking self-rectification is akin to lighting a lamp coated with soot and grime. Such knowledge fails to fully illuminate ones path, and instead casts shadows of arrogance and ignorance. This course delves into the essential etiquettes and principles for seeking knowledge within the Islamic tradition. Students will examine key topics such as the importance of sincerity (ikhl), humility (tawdu), and perseverance (mujhadah) in the pursuit of knowledge.
 


FQH 102:  Ul-al-Fiqh: Intro to Legal Theory

Course Description: Islamic legal theory, or ul-al-fiqh, forms the backbone of Islamic jurisprudence, providing the framework for understanding and applying the principles of Islamic law. This course offers an introduction to these foundational principles, essential for anyone seeking to grasp the intricacies of Islamic legal reasoning.

Students will explore the methodologies and sources that underpin Islamic jurisprudence, including the Quran, Sunnah, consensus (ijm), and legal analogy (qiys). By examining these core sources, students will understand how legal rulings are derived and applied within the Islamic tradition.
 


TRK 101: Lives of the Great: Notable Islamic Figures

Course Description: Islam has been shaped by extraordinary individuals whose contributions stand out across history. In this course, students will study the lives of the ummahs most distinguished scholars, generals, saints, and other luminaries, from the early years of Islam to the present day. Through examining the lives of these remarkable figures, students will not only be inspired to pursue greatness in their own lives, but also gain a deeper understanding of how Islam was the foundation of their success.
 


HAD 101: Introduction to Hadith Sciences

Instructor: Muft Umrain Khan

Timing: 3:30 PM - 4:10 PM

Course Description: Along with the Quran, the hadith corpus embodies the essential teachings of Islam. The guidance necessary for traversing this temporal existence and attaining the eternal abode of the Hereafter is found within these texts. Obedience to the Messenger is, in fact, obedience to Allh, as He has commanded adherence to the Messengers teachings: Whatever the Messenger prescribes, take it, and whatever he prohibits, abstain from it. (59:7). In our times, we encounter detractors who, fueled by disbelief, have sought to challenge the authority of the hadith. Through baseless conjecture, orientalists and their unwitting following of Muslim academics have introduced irrational doubts, tainting the hearts of some believers. 

This course is designed to clarify and firmly establish the unquestionable authority of the Prophets Sunnah. By thoroughly confirming the validity of relying on the hadith corpus in nomistic application, students will realize that it offers the most perfect guidance for all human endeavorslegal, social, spiritual, and beyond. Participants will study both the transmission and preservation of hadith, while being introduced to the foundational principles of hadith nomenclature. Through this study, students will not only gain a broad understanding of this sacred science but also develop a deep appreciation for the monumental contributions of traditional hadith scholars.
