Community Notice About Revisions to the RCM Bylaws
Deadline for comments is Saturday April 12, 2025
Based on community feedback and based on gained experience over the first 16 years of the RCM experience, The Board of Trustees of Roswell Community Masjid has revised the bylaws to make sure our community continues to adhere to the Islamic tradition in decision making, transparency, and accountability.
The main sections that were revised were:
The Purpose: This section added clearer language to make sure RCM is defined as a Charitable Religious Based organization that follows the Quran and Prophetic tradition following Ahlus-Sunnah-WalJamaa.
Decision Making: This section was revised to make it clear that consultative decision making is the process to be followed by the Board. It also clarifies and simplifies the steps to be followed in implementing this process.
Board Responsibilities: This section was revised to clearly state in detail the collective responsibilities of the Board of Trustees, as well as the responsibilities of each board member. The role and responsibilities of the Board Officers were also revised to give more details. These changes were made to facilitate and encourage better accountability.
Number of Trustees: This was revised to allow the range of 7 to 11 Board members given that any change in numbers will take place in the transition period while new Board member selections are taking place. This revision will give the organization the ability to adjust to the organizational needs without having to change the bylaws when an adjustment in the Board member numbers is needed.
Policy Making: The Revised draft requires the Board to publish notice regarding potential adoption of a new policy. This gives the community a view and an opportunity to share concerns or comments regarding such a policy before the Board can act on it.
Transparency: In addition to requiring the community have a view of any new policy prior to adoption, the Board also is required to offer the community the opportunity to review and comment on any revisions or changes to the Bylaws of the organization.
These are the highlights of the revisions. If any community member would like to view a full version of the revised bylaws, please email Maher Budeir at: [email protected] and you will be provided with a full current copy of the revised bylaws. The deadline to submit comments regarding these revisions is **Saturday April 12, 2025.
