Join us for iftar tonight.
Asalaamu Alaikum, Dear MIC Family,
Today, the 10th of Muharram marks the day of Ashura, commemorating the freedom of Bani Israel (Children of Israel) by Prophet Musa (AS) from Pharaoh.
This day also commemorates the sacrifices of Imam Hussain (AS) and the Ahl al-Bayt (the Prophetic family) during the Battle of Karbala, in 61 AH, a legacy of standing for justice in the face of tyranny.
What did the Prophet say about Ashura?
=============================================
Ibn Abbas (RA) reported: The Messenger of Allah came to Medina and found the Jews fasting on the day of Ashura. He said, What is this day you are fasting?__They replied, It is a great day in which Allah saved Musa and his people, and drowned Pharaoh and his people. Musa fasted on it out of gratitude, so we also fast on it.__The Prophet said, We are more worthy and closer to Musa than you. So he fasted on that day and commanded fasting on it.(Bukhari)
What can we do today?
**1.**Fast the 10th, along with the 9th or 11th of Muharram, following the sunnah.
**2.**Give in charity with sincerity. The Prophet said:
Whoever fasts Ashura it is as if he has fasted the entire year. And whoever gives charity on this day, it is like the charity of an entire year.(Ibn Rajab)
**3.**Spend generously on your family. The Prophet said:
Whoever is generous to his family on the day of Ashura, Allah will be generous to him throughout the year.(Bayhaqi)
Dont miss this opportunity to give in charity on this blessed day.
May Allah (SWT) accept your fasting, giving, and high intentions.
Join us tonight at Maghrib for our Ashura Iftar at MIC.
Let us break our fast together in faith and gratitude.
