Islamic Center of Southern California Statement:
Permanent Ceasefire Now - Support U.S. House Resolution 786

The Islamic Center of Southern California reiterates its call made in various forums, khutbas, and activities for a permanent ceasefire to stop Israels genocide against the people of Gaza. To date, the genocide has taken over 15,000 lives, 70% of which are women and children.

While governments and political bodies locally, nationally, and around the world may lack the political courage to recognize events as being a genocide in progress, the rest of conscience humanity does.

We are heartened that so many fellow citizens and people around the world are learning more about the history of the conflict, the false narrative being told by others, and making their voices heard.

Unfortunately, our taxpayer dollars go to fund Israels weapons and military. Additional funds are being discussed in the Senate and House right now. As American Muslims, it is our civic duty to use our voice to push toward a more just world than the one we live in now.

We also call on our interfaith communities to join us in this ceasefire demand. Specifically, we have seen our Jewish brothers and sisters in the U.S. speak up and protest with organizations like Jewish Voices for Peace, If Not Now, and Not in Our Name. These organizations have been at the forefront of this demand for a ceasefire. At this time, we pray, we peacefully protest, and we make our voices heard.

WHAT YOU CAN DO

  1. Call or email your U.S. Congressional Representative to support House Resolution 786 - calling for an immediate de-escalation and cease-fire.

  1. Educate yourself and those around you by using this useful resource toolkit put together by the Muslim Public Affairs Council. Read this toolkit to understand how you can advocate and do more.

As always, our faith is the great equalizer in dealing with the undoubted anger and depression we all currently feel.

As part of that, our faith mandates that we act, and in doing so one day we will come to understand.

And say [unto them, O Prophet]: Act! And God will behold your deeds, and [so will] His Apostle, and the believers: and [in the end] you will be brought before Him who knows all that is beyond the reach of a created being's perception as well as all that can be witnessed by a creature's senses or mind -and then He will make you understand what you have been doing. (At-Tauba 9:105)

May God guide us all as we strive only in His cause.
