Annual Quran Competition and the Dr. Salman Alani Award at the Islamic Center of Bloomington

Dear Community Members,

Assalamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh,

We are honored to announce that the Islamic Center of Bloomington will host its Annual Quran Competition on Saturday, March 22nd. This year, we are introducing the Dr. Salman Alani Award (generously sponsored by his family) to recognize excellence in Quranic recitation and memorization, celebrating the legacy of one of our esteemed founders, Dr. Salman Alani ( ).

Dr. Alani was a cornerstone of our community, dedicating over fifty years as a professor of Middle Eastern Languages and Cultures and as the program director of the Arabic Flagship Program at Indiana University. His unwavering commitment to the Quran and Islamic education was truly inspiring. Notably, he served as the chair of the construction committee during the building of our new masjid, guiding the project with dedication and expertise. Through this award, we seek to honor his legacy.

As we remember Dr. Alani, we ask Allah (SWT) to grant him Jannatul Firdaus, forgive his shortcomings, and reward him immensely for all the good he has done.
