Dear Members of the Islamic Community Center of Gainesville (ICCG),
Assalamu alaikum,
We, the undersigned, have been entrusted with the responsibility of organizing the upcoming ICCG Board Elections for the next term. There are seven vacancies to be filled: five general community members, one of which is reserved for a female candidate and two student members .
We invite all registered (paid) members of the ICCG to participate in this process by nominating themselves or other eligible ICCG registered members (with their consent).
Eligibility Requirements
- Student nominees must have resided in Gainesville for at least six months.
- General community member nominees must have resided in Gainesville for at least two years.
Nominees should submit a short CV that includes:
- Length of residency in Gainesville and expected duration of stay.
- Leadership experience and involvement in community service at ICCG or any other community.
- A brief statement explaining their interest in serving on the ICCG Board.
Qualifications for Board Members
- Must be a law-abiding legal resident of the Gainesville area and a Muslim who believes in the Quran as the final message from the almighty and Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) as the final messenger.
- Must be an active general body member of the ICCG in good standing for at least two years (for general board members) or six months (for student board members).
- Must have a good knowledge of Islam and demonstrate Islamic manners and morals in their community and organizational dealings.
- Must have adequate time, dedication, and skills to contribute to a volunteer capacity to fulfill the objectives of the ICCG as set forth in its bylaws.
- Must exhibit strong leadership and communication skills, with a focus on serving the community, rather than seeking titles.
- Must have the ability to present ideas in a balanced manner and be able to compromise when necessary for the benefit of the community.

- January 13, 2025 Deadline for Nomination Submissions
- January 14, 2025 Validation of Nominations
- January 15, 2025 Announcement of Valid Candidates
- January 17, 2025 Candidates meeting with the community
- January 19, 2025 Last Day to Withdraw Nominations
- January 26, 2025 Election Day
- TBD Transfer of Responsibilities
We are actively working on setting up online voting. If we are unable to finalize the online voting system, in-person voting will take place on Sunday, January 26, 2025.
Gainesville Muslim community is highly diverse in terms of nationalities, professions, and backgrounds. We, the appointed members of the Election Commission are cognizant of this fact and are looking forward to a diverse slate of candidates to choose from Islamic Community Center, as the first dedicated place of Islamic prayers in Gainesville is a particularly important place for Muslims of the community. It has served hundreds of Muslims both Americans and International.
We consider our job as an Amana, a trust and our responsibility to the community and Almighty Allah SWT. Board membership and nominations are also great responsibilities.
