Join us for a timely conversation as we reflect on the life and legacy El Hajji Malik El Shabaaz with a panel followed by a live performance by Jazz Explosion, an ensemble of some of Chicago's best, seasoned artists who have performed and recorded with Jazz legends, Max Roach, Elvin Jones, and Ramsey Lewis. This musical program is set to be a true reflection, expression, and celebration of Black, Muslim, and Muslim-adjacent contributions to American music and culture. Music selections include some of Br. Malcolm's favorites.
Proceeds will go to support urban development and international relief aid.
Panelists:
Dr. Lynne Muhammad, Instructor of Biology at AIC
PhD from Loyola University Chicago. Founder of The STREAM Lab, a hands-on interactive program to help youth, ages of 8-15, learn how to integrate skills learned in school into a cohesive tool for solving problems. Serves as the chair of the science department at Whitney Young Magnet High School where she has taught for more than 16 years.
Dr. Kim Searcy, Associate Professor of History at Loyola University Chicago Teaches courses on Islam, Islam in East Africa, African history, slavery in Muslim Africa, and Islam in the African American experience.
Tarek Khalil, JD, Attorney & Activist
UIC and John Marshall Law School Graduate. Board member and Education Coordinator with the American Muslims for Palestine (AMP-Chicago). With AMP, Tarek lectures on topics such as modern Palestinian history, Middle East politics, and Palestinian rights under international law.

Due to unforeseen circumstances, the College restructured the event to welcome Jazz Explosion. Keeping in the spirit of El Hajji Malik El Shabazz (Malcolm X) and the cause for humanitarian aid to the suffering peoples of Gaza and Sudan central to this event, the College brings you a program that reflects the College's commitment to social justice and human rights for all.
Please join us for a stimulating panel discussion and a musical performance that is sure to provoke the senses.

Join Rebekah Coffman for a presentation on the Chicago Sacred initiative at the Chicago History Museum. This discussion will explore how religion is central to the unique urban history of Chicago, share CHM’s approach to religious histories, and describe methods for partnering in telling accurate and authentic religious and community stories through collections, exhibitions, digital initiatives, and programs.

Speaker Biography:
Rebekah Coffman is a historian, preservationist, and curator currently serving as curator of religion and community history at the Chicago History Museum where she leads the Chicago Sacred initiative. Her interdisciplinary work is at the intersection of religious identity and the built environment and explores themes of tangible and intangible heritages in material and visual culture through place-based, community-centered approaches.

Speaker Biography:
Ibrahim N. Abusharif, PhD, is an associate professor in residence in the Journalism and Strategic Communication Program. His fields of research include narrative journalism, religious studies, and the decolonization of storytelling. Specifically, his academic interests include the study of the intersections of religion and media, particularly digital media disruptions and their effects on contemporary religious authority. He also researches the origins, promulgation, and effects of key journalistic framing terminologies used in prominent Western news sources in their coverage and reportage of the Middle East and Muslim minorities in the West.

More About Dr. Abusharif:
Born and raised in Chicago, he studied the biological sciences as an undergraduate, and later he received his master’s from Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism and his doctorate in religious and Islamic studies from the University of Wales Trinity Saint David.

The Ibn Khaldun Entrance-Year Scholarship
AIC is delighted to announce that it will be offering ten full-tuition, entrance-year scholarships to first-year undergraduate applicants (full-time study only) who demonstrate great academic potential, a thirst for knowledge, and a deep and demonstrable commitment to the public good. Students of all backgrounds and faith traditions are welcome to apply.
The Hon. Elijah & Clara Muhammad Memorial Scholarship
Awards a full tuition scholarship each year to one qualifying male and one qualifying female student (entering their second, third, or fourth year of undergraduate study) committed to the interconnected causes of education and community transformation. All AIC undergraduate students are eligible to apply for this scholarship every year.
The Imam Warith Deen Mohammed Memorial Scholarship
Awards a full tuition scholarship each year to a qualifying second, third, or fourth-year student committed to a life of scholarship and teaching in the area of Islamic Studies. All AIC undergraduate students are eligible to apply for this scholarship each year.
