AIC WELCOMES STEPHANIE MIRZA TO THE TEAM!
Stephanie Mirza joins AIC as the new Student Support Services Coordinator, a role in which she will be assisting students in realizing their full potential. Stephanie is committed to getting to know each student individually, and helping all of them access the resources they need. This will include navigating internships, helping them connect with the community, and assisting them with maintaining a rich and rewarding student life.
Raised in the Pacific Northwest, Stephanie has journeyed with her husband to many places inside and outside the United States. She holds an MA from Wesleyan University, her thesis centering on Muslim American Authors of Fiction. While in California, she served three years on the administrative support staff at Zaytuna College. As a certified ESL instructor, Stephanie has taught English to international students and recent immigrants. Stephanie’s first of three sons was born in Pakistan, where she learned to speak Urdu.
Beyond the academic realm, Stephanie enjoys contributing to her community by announcing on the local NPR station, 88.1 WVPE. In 2023, she had the privilege of facilitating conversations through One Small Step, a community bridge-building initiative of Storycorps. In this time of division, she’s an active organizer of her local Women’s Interfaith Dialogue. Stephanie is an innkeeper, managing a bed & breakfast in a historic home in downtown South Bend, Indiana.
Stephanie looks forward to the journey ahead, tapping into the wealth of resources within each student and fostering an environment of growth and achievement at AIC. AIC is blessed to have Stephanie join the team!

SPEAKER BIOGRAPHY
Dr. Heather Akou is an Associate Professor of Fashion Design in the Eskenazi School of Art, Architecture + Design at Indiana University. Her varied research interests include African dress and fashion, contemporary Islamic fashion, working-class histories of dress in the United States, uniforms, lawmaking about dress and the body, and the politics of museum collections. Her latest book, On the Job: A History of American Work Uniforms, was just published by Bloomsbury Academic.

Talaat Pasha is the director of the Arabic Language Institute at the American Islamic College in Chicago. He holds a Ph.D. in Linguistics from the University of Utah. He is an education consultant of curriculum and instruction. Dr. Pasha is also a certified coach and trainer in Personality Types, in Mental Fitness (PQ), in Adventures in Wisdom (to coach kids and teens) and an instructor of Mental Health First Aid (MHFA). He is the founder of PASHA ACADAMY Consulting and Training, to offer life and executive coaching services and facilitate workshops for personal and professional growth.
