Assalaamu alaikum,
- Please keep in your du'aa our Brothers and Sisters and the children in Palestine in the difficulties they face. There is a continued need to increase the voices of conscience in our country who demand our elected officials push for an permanent ceasefire and end to violence. Please continue to join your brothers and sisters in speaking out, and keep giving generously for relief and humanitarian aid to be delivered.
- A global day of action for Gaza is announced for tomorrow, Saturday January 13. A large rally will be held in Washington DC beginning at 1 PM as part of a worldwide push to mobilize people in demanding a permanent ceasefire. Join the many who will go to Washington in this effort.
- The month of Rajab has now begun, and two months until the beginning of Ramadan. May our community be kept safe until Ramadan, may Ramadan be guarded for us all, and may our striving in Ramadan be accepted. Ameen.
- The monthly Muslim community potluck dinner will be held tomorrow, Saturday January 13. Please see below for a revised schedule.
- Weekly Qur'an reading classes are now offered at the masjid on Saturdays between Maghrib and 'Isha. Classes for Brothers and Sisters aged 12 and up will be held in the men's and women's prayer rooms respectively.
- In service to the poor in Tompkins County we are seeking volunteers for the upcoming work shift at the Ithaca Kitchen Cupboard on Tuesday January 30 from 1:30 to 3 PM. Please see details below.
- The Tompkins County Legislature will meet on Tuesday January 16 at 5:30 PM. Community members are asked to attend this meeting and speak to encourage the representatives to adapt a resolution on favor of a ceasefire in Gaza. It is important for Muslim voices to be heard by our representatives, a three minute time limit is given per speaker. If you don't wish to speak you can support by your presence in the chambers.

Children's Islamic School
Classes for the Children's Islamic School will be held from 11 AM to 2 PM on Sundays. Please visit our website for current information, registration and other forms are now available there. The school calendar is also posted there, please refer to this to know when classes will not be held.
Providing sound Islamic education for our children is a community obligation and we are grateful for all those who are giving their time and knowledge to serve our children and community in this way, and for those who have done so in the past.

Ongoing Service Opportunity:
The Al-Huda Islamic Center shares in the responsibility of providing workers to serve individuals and families in need of food at the Ithaca Kitchen Cupboard, one of the areas oldest food pantries.
The needs of the poor have been increasing in recent months. The work is simple and rewarding and requires about two hours of time. Our next scheduled time to provide workers will be on Tuesday January 30, 2024.
We will need three volunteers for our shift next month, please reply if you can volunteer to represent our community for this important responsibility.
Muslim Community Potluck Dinner Tomorrow!
The monthly Muslim community potluck dinner will be held tomorrow, Saturday January 13. Bring a meal to share and enjoy fellowship with our community members. A revised schedule for this event is:
Setup tables and chairs: 2:00 PM
Arrange food on serving tables: 2:30 PM
Asr prayer in congregation: 2:45 PM
Enjoy the meal and company after Asr.
Maghrib prayer: Sunset + 10 minutes = 5:06 PM
Interfaith Community Dinner on Thursday January 25
The next interfaith community dinner will be hosted by friends at the First Congregational Church in Ithaca. The event is scheduled for Thursday January 25 from 6 to 8 PM. Please plan to attend and represent the Muslim community so we can know our neighbors and be known in the larger community.
Details are to be shared in a flyer next week.
