Water is a Trust: ZF Masjids Journey to Eliminate Bottle Waste by September 2025

Assalamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullah,

Every Ramadan, we come together to worship, to break our fasts, to build bonds of faith. But one painful reality has quietly repeated itself:

Dozens of water bottles, every night, left half-full.  Clean, pure, drinking water untouched, wasted, thrown away.

In total, we estimate that over 100 gallons of water were wasted during Ramadan 2025 at our masjid. Not including the hundreds of plastic bottles discarded after a few sips.

This isn't just an environmental issue its a spiritual one.

The Prophet said: "Do not waste water, even if you are on the banks of a flowing river.
And Allah reminds us: Indeed, the wasteful are brothers of the devils. (Qur'an 17:27)

Thats why were taking a bold step:

By September 2025, ZF Masjid will become a plastic water bottle-free space.
No more single-use bottles. No more wasted water. In its place: sustainable refilling, reusable bottles, and a shared commitment to barakah.
 

Here's Whats Changing:

• Water coolers and filling stations are being placed around the masjid in the coming weeks

• ZF-branded reusable bottles will be available for all at cost

• Plastic water bottle purchases are already being reduced

• From September 1st, no single-use bottles will be distributed
   

What You Can Do:

•  Bring your reusable water bottle to every salah and event

• Encourage your family to take part in this shift

• Help your children understand the importance of not wasting water

• Reflect with us on how small changes can bring great reward

This isn't just a policy change. Its a value statement.  A collective act of ihsn and shukr.

Lets move forward together refilling with purpose, worshipping with care, and showing respect for every drop.
