Shaykh Khalis Rashaad
Shaykh Khalis Rashaad is the Imam (Spiritual Director and Community Guide) of the Ibrahim Islamic Center. His current studies with his teachers focus on theology, jurisprudence, and spirituality. Shaykh Khalis teaching style empowers others to engage the Islamic tradition and apply it to their daily lives in a practical and meaningful way.
He plays an active role in community outreach, frequently leading Friday talks and teaching classes and workshops on Islam, the social sciences, finance, and entrepreneurship. By profession, he is an accountant, yet he describes himself as an Imam by night. A native of Houstons inner city, Shaykh Khalis has also taught martial arts, boxing, and kickboxing. He loves serving the community and enjoys reading, good conversation, and coffee.
Dr. Mariam Sheibani
Dr. Mariam Sheibani is a scholar, educator, and researcher, serving as Assistant Professor of Islamic Thought at Brandeis University. She is a globally recognized scholar passionate about public education and community building.
Dr. Sheibani holds an MA in Legal Studies, a second MA and PhD in Islamic Thought from the University of Chicago, and completed postdoctoral training at Harvard Law School. Over the past two decades, she has studied the classical religious sciences with Muslim scholars from Turkey, Syria, Jordan, North America, and West Africa.
Her work offers frameworks for integrating religious commitment with lived experience. She empowers communities to think through critical issues, co-create solutions, and cultivate a God-centered and meaningful spiritual life.
