McKinney Islamic Association
Asalaamu alaikum dear Community Members,
This message is to inform you that we, the undersigned shura members of the Mckinney Islamic Association, are writing to you with heavy hearts to inform you of our resignation, effective immediately. This was not a decision we made lightly, but one we felt compelled to take due to serious concerns regarding the leadership of the current Ameer. We do not question his intentions, but his leadership is proving detrimental to the Masjid.
Over the past two years, we have been deeply committed to the mission and success of Mckinney Masjid as volunteers and have greatly valued the opportunity to serve our community in this capacity, as well as our current roles as Shura members. We believe the issues within the Shura have created an unhealthy and unsustainable environment that compromises the mission and values of Mckinney Masjid. We have made numerous attempts to address these concerns internally, but unfortunately, our efforts have been unsuccessful. We now leave the matter to Allah (SWT).
Before leaving we wish to remind you that as community members, you are the heart and soul of Mckinney Masjid. You are in charge. You have a fundamental right to be informed about the operations and governance of this organization. We want to ensure you are aware that:
-
You should have access to and understand the constitution/by-laws by which Mckinney Masjid is governed. We have attached a copy of the organization's constitution for your review.
-
You have the right to request Minutes of the Shura (Board) meetings. These minutes provide a record of the board's discussions and decisions.
Email [email protected] or [email protected] to request access.
- You must be aware of the monthly financial reports and budgets for each committee. These should be regularly posted in the masjid and any questions you have regarding them should be addressed. Use the emails shared above. Transparency in financial matters is crucial for accountability.
- You have the right to know about the activities and decisions of the Construction committee. Given the significant financial resources often involved in construction projects, it is essential to be diligent in knowing who is in the Construction Committee, how decisions are made, and what expenses are being approved. Please make it a point to stay informed and ask critical questions.
We urge you to exercise these rights and actively engage with the leadership of Mckinney Masjid to seek clarity and accountability. Your voice matters, and it is vital in ensuring the organization operates ethically and effectively. We remain deeply committed to the mission of Mckinney Masjid and hope that by bringing these issues to your attention, you will be empowered to advocate for positive change.
You may soon receive a response to this email from the Ameer discrediting our character and contributions. We reiterate, we entrust this matter to Allah (SWT). Having exhausted internal avenues for resolution, we felt obligated to provide you, the community who elected us, with an explanation before resigning.
Abu Said al-Khudri reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, Whoever among you sees munkar, let him change it with his hand. If he cannot do so, then with his tongue. If he cannot do so, then with his heart, which is the weakest level of faith.Source: Sahih Muslim 49
JazakAllah khairun for your support and we ask that you forgive us for any shortcomings.
