May the peace, mercy, and blessings of God be upon you
Dear MCA Community,
We are happy to announce the results for the 2024 Executive Committee elections.
One candidate was nominated within the nomination period for each of the Secretary and Outreach chairs, respectively. As such, these board positions will be filled by uncontested election. There were no nominations received during the designated nomination period for the two open Sisters' Committee positions. Two community members have since agreed to join the Sisters' Committee and were appointed by the Executive Committee on December 7th, 2024 through unanimous vote, to be confirmed at the upcoming General Body Meeting on December 14th.
Br. Muneeb Ahmed, Secretary: Br. Muneeb has been attending MCA since 2019, when he moved to Ann Arbor. He enjoys being a part of the dynamic and diverse community at MCA and is grateful for the opportunity to contribute. A native of Michigan, he studied and worked for almost ten years in Boston, Minneapolis, New York, and Singapore before moving back. Muneeb completed his bachelors in Physics at Harvard University and works as an oil trader. He lives with his wife and newborn son on the northside of Ann Arbor.
Dr. Omar Danoun, Outreach: Dr. Omar joined the MCA community in June 2016 when he started fellowship training at UM. He now works as a neurologist at Henry Ford Hospital where he has served in multiple leadership positions geared towards medical education. Since moving to Ann Arbor, he has been active in community service with a focus on educating the public about health issues in Palestine. He also runs several social media channels to help people understand epilepsy. Dr. Omar joined the MCA board with a special interest in helping to build a strategic plan for the center that goes beyond the daily management of the Masjid with a focus on putting our youth at the center of future planning.
Sr. Deniz Gunduz, Sisters' Committee: Sr. Deniz is an Ann Arbor native who has been deeply connected to the MCA for many years. She has a passion for traveling, staying active through sports, and uniting women to build strong and supportive connections. As a member of the Sisters Committee, she is committed to serving our community and creating a mosque environment where everyone feels valued and inspired to grow spiritually and socially.
